Letters to Leaders is an opportunity for school-aged children in Texas to make their voices heard. If you would like us to share a child's letter with state leaders, legislators, or members of the media, please follow the guidelines below:
-
Art submissions are recommended for children in Texas in grades K, 1, 2, or 3 or home-school equivalent. Because some items may be framed or reprinted, we recommend that submissions be on solid white paper; use paint, markers, or other bright marks; and are mailed unfolded. Names should be written on the back of art submissions in pencil or light pen, so as not to bleed through.
-
Letters are recommended for children in Texas in grades 4 or up, or home-school equivalent. They can address a topic of students' choosing and be directed to their own state legislator, governor, or other elected official at the state or national level.
-
All submissions should include the child's name and an address to which the candidate or elected official can respond if desired (e.g., the school classroom address). Additionally, one contact phone number or email address (e.g., for the teacher or program leader) must be included for each set of submissions. The contact information will be used only for the purposes of informing participants of receipt of their submissions.
-
Submissions should include original content, and should be respectful in nature: polite, clear, and from the heart.
-
Submissions will be shared with state leaders but Texans Care for Children also reserves the right to print, share, and display any artwork and letters submitted through Letters to Leaders, if a child's parent or guardian agrees.
- Texans Care for Children is not responsible for lost, damaged, or incomplete submissions.
