The Put Kids 1st Awards Luncheon was established in 2005 to honor the founder of Texans Care for Children, Phil Strickland, for his commitment to improving the lives of Texas children. The Put Kids 1st Awards Luncheon continues in this tradition by honoring Texans who exemplify Strickland's commitment. Past honorees include Phil Strickland, State Senator Jane Nelson, Eleanor Butt Crook and Charles Butt, State Representative Patrick Rose, Pat and Bob Ayers, and Governor Dolph Briscoe, Jr.
The 2010 Founder's Award was presented to Babs Baugh of San Antonio for her dedication to promoting children's issues and supporting agencies that are making a difference in the lives of Texas children. Through her work with Baptist Child and Family Services, Baylor University and her family foundation, the Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation, Babs has worked to ensure that Texas children are given every opportunity to be successful.
The 2010 Child Advocate Award was presented to AT&T for its dedicated work in strengthening Texas communities and supporting the children of Texas. In 2008, AT&T contributed $169 million through corporate, employee and AT&T Foundation giving programs. AT&T has focused much of its efforts in Texas on supporting education and learning opportunities.
The Put Kids 1st Awards Luncheon held on March 10, 2010 at the Four Seasons Hotel Austin benefited Texans Care for Children and its work for over 6.4 million children in Texas.
