Children in Texas need food, shelter, and the basic hope that comes with seeing their families free from economic strain.
Each child brings the promise of a more prosperous future Texas. But for our state's future economic growth, children must have their basics met today. Compared to children in financially fit homes, kids growing up in poverty have poorer health, face higher rates of violence, and are less likely to finish school and raise their own children free of poverty. Having a family that's able to provide food, housing, child care, medication, and other basic necessities will allow Texas children to become tomorrow's innovators and leaders.

Texas' aid system, which includes programs like food stamps, Children's Medicaid, and school lunches, ranks second to last in the country for the share of needy, eligible people who actually receive benefits. More»

Support families' ability to build their own financial security.Texans have the worst credit scores in the country, and our state is among the bottom handful in personal savings rates, homeownership, and average household net worth. Asset-building opportunities are limited in Texas with fewer community tax centers and supports than in other states. More»
