Payday Lending a Major Challenge for Texas - Thursday, December 03, 2009

Payday lenders target poor Texans, and single mothers are among the most vulnerable. A recent series, "Debtors' Treadmill" in the Texas Tribune examined the issue looked at the growing crisis in payday lending. The first article, " Borrowed Time" explores the issue from the victim of predatory lending's point of view. The second article, " Political Payday," shows that political candidates have received significant campaign contributions from this influential industry. Texans Care for Children's Poverty and Economic Security Roundtable dedicated a recent meeting to the topic of payday lending, with a presentation from Texas Appleseed on the practice and its disproportionate impact on poor families, including single mothers.
